What is Tinnitus?
Tinnitus, also known as “ringing in the ears,” is when you hear phantom sounds in your ears or head. These are typically described as buzzing, humming, ringing, whistling, or other sound that is not externally present. Millions of people experience tinnitus at some point in their lifetime. And it can range from occasional to consistent. For those who hear ringing in the ears on a frequent basis, it can affect quality of life, sleep, and concentration.
Tinnitus Evaluation
Dr. Elise Gallignano is an expert in tinnitus and can help patients overcome ringing in the ears. To identify tinnitus, we will perform a full hearing evaluation along with a tinnitus test. This will allow our audiologist to identify the cause behind your tinnitus as well as the severity of it. Understanding what has caused tinnitus is key in finding the right management plan to help you overcome ringing in the ears.
Tinnitus Treatment
If tinnitus is identified, we carry tinnitus masking hearing aids that can help alleviate the perception of tinnitus. Although hearing aids won’t stop ringing in the ears completely, they can help by offering relief.
Other management options may be explored such as sound therapy, meditation, and counseling. Our team will go over options with you and create a treatment plan that is tailored to your unique needs.
